In the heart of Calgary East, a familiar name is stirring renewed hope and ambition among voters. Priti Obhrai-Martin, daughter of the late Hon. Deepak Obhrai, has stepped into the political arena, this time not as a Conservative, but as the official Liberal candidate. With decades of political legacy behind her and a powerful personal journey ahead, she is promising a bold and community-driven vision for the riding.
Priti’s campaign headquarters, located in the Franklin Atrium, is open daily and buzzing with activity. With signage proudly stating “Canada Strong” and “A Strong Voice for You and Alberta in Ottawa,” she is positioning herself as a passionate advocate for economic revitalization, trade diversification, and community welfare. Her campaign emphasizes sovereignty, public safety, and affordability—pledging tax cuts for the middle class, investment in local businesses, and stricter bail laws to enhance community safety. As Canada navigates economic uncertainty and international trade tensions, Priti’s platform resonates with a sense of urgency and pragmatic leadership.

Her roots run deep in Calgary East. As the daughter of Deepak Obhrai, who represented the region in Parliament for over two decades, Priti is no stranger to public service. She worked alongside her father on policy, strategy, and community outreach. After his passing in 2019 due to a brief but aggressive battle with liver cancer, Priti continued her mission of service—carrying the values instilled by her father into every facet of her work. Deepak Obhrai, the first person of colour to run for leadership of the Conservative Party, was widely respected for standing up for immigrants and human rights—even when it meant disagreeing with his own party.
Priti brings a unique mix of grassroots connection and global experience. Educated in evolutionary science, communication, digital media, and conflict resolution, she has worked with NGOs, trade agencies, and Indigenous communities across Canada and abroad. Her work through the Obhrai Foundation in Uganda highlights her commitment to preparing refugees for successful integration in Canada, with initiatives focused on civic education, counselling, and skills development.

In a heartfelt message to voters, she stresses that her campaign is about more than political affiliation. “Leadership is more important than party,” she says, echoing her father’s philosophy. “I raised my hand when Prime Minister Mark Carney took leadership—not just to win an election, but to ensure Calgary East has a strong, fearless voice in Ottawa.”
As the federal election approaches, Priti Obhrai-Martin stands out as a candidate who blends the strength of legacy with the drive of a new generation. Her commitment to stability, safety, prosperity, and compassion reflects a Canada many voters yearn to see—resilient, united, and forward-looking.
